Mopa airport to get Rs 200 cr
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, MARCH 10
The Planning Commission has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 200 crores to Goa for the Greenfield international airport at Mopa.
Stating this, a senior official of the Finance Department said that this development would give a boost to the airport project.
To begin with, it will help to expedite the work of land acquisition as awards are to be paid as compensation to the land owners or claimants.
It may be recalled that the government has acquired nearly 1 crore sq mt land for the airport project. The process is to be completed soon, sources said.
The international airport is to be built on PPP (private-public participation) model. Roughly it is estimated to cost more than Rs 1700 crores. A few years ago before the strong opposition came from Churchill Alemao and others techno-feasibility report was being prepared. Sources said the entire process may have to be re-looked or redone.
The sources also stated that the central government will provide 40 % viability fund for the project.
