MERCES: The nine-day novena of St Francis Xavier, popularly known as ‘Goemcho Saib,’ will commence from November 24 to December 2, with the celebration of the feast on December 3.
Rector of Basilica of Bom Jesus, Fr Savio Baretto informed Herald that the theme chosen for this year’s feast is ‘Sant Francisache Bhoktin Kristachi Kudd Bhandum-ia.’
During the novena days, daily masses in Konkani will be celebrated at 6 am, 7.15 am, 8.15 am, 9.30 am, 10.30 am, 3.45 pm and 5.15 pm, while the English mass will be at 6.15 pm. Apart from this, masses will also be held at 5 am on November 24 and 30, and December 1 and 2. However, there will be no mass at 10.30 am on
November 25 and 28. Further, masses in Indian and foreign languages will also be held during the novena and feast.
While masses will be celebrated in Tamil (11.30 am), Malayalam (12.30 pm) and in Hindi (2.30 pm) on November 24, a mass will be celebrated in French at 2.30 pm on November 29.
Masses in other languages will be in Portuguese at 11.30 am on November 30, Marathi at 11.30 am on December 1, Kannada at 11.30 am on December 2 and in Spanish at 3 pm on December 3.
On the feast day, masses will be celebrated at 4 am, 5 am, 6 am, 7 am, 8 am, 9 am, 10.30 am (Feast Mass), 12.30 pm, 3 pm (Spanish), 4 pm, 5 pm and 6 pm (English).
Also, there will be an inter-religious meet on November 28 at 10.30 am, followed by a mass at 12.30 pm.
The parishes that will celebrate the novena masses at 8.15 am are Utorda (November 24), Assonora (November 25), Rachol (November 26), Agassaim (November 27), Old Goa (November 28), Merces (November 29), Chinchinim (November 30), Taleigao (December 1) and Sao Jose de Areal (December 2).
